Module Reflection #10

As I reflect on my experience of this first semester in the program I can say that I am truly amazed I made it through and that I am very proud of all my accomplishments. I am espcially pleased with all the latest tech tools we learned. I know that these will be of use when I go out into the professional field. For this last assignment we were tasked with creating a Google site for our ePortfolio. The ePortfolio showcases all the assignments we completed in this EDIT4300 course as well as the EDIT4500 course. It is a wonderful way to highlight all our newly acquired skills, knowledge and accomplishments.       For my website template I decided to chose something clean yet bold, something that represents me and my work. I believe that sometimes less is more, hence my approach was minimalistic. I decided not to overcrowd the pages and chose a white background with a bold professional image for the banner. I stuck with one color scheme and used one f...

Module Reflection #9

For this module we were tasked with creating a Google Form Questionare and a Game/Puzzle. I had made a google form in the past when I was subbing during the pandemic and had to come up with quick and simple ways to quiz my students. What I liked about google forms was that it kept track of all the data which made grading stress free. Though I wish I would have known back then about these newer fun quizzing sites. I did try kahoot but for some reason the link it provided me didn't show me the quiz in the student's view, therefore I tried Quizizz instead. I have to stay it was fun viewing it as a student would because it had music and funny memes that pop up when you answer each question letting you know whether you answered correctly or incorrectly. Anyway, I am attching them for your viewing. Enjoy!  Google Form Quiz Game

Module Reflection #8

First of all, I want to say that I absolutely loved using Adobe Express for the video assignment. Though it was very limited in terms of what you can edit, for example the layouts, fonts, colors, transitons only had a set amount of each, roughly about 5 options. On top of that I was very hesitant because I had a terrible experience with it before when I created an Infographic. I think because I had so much information to add to it, and it created a layer for each new graphic or text it kept freezing. I definitely would not recommend it for dense projects but for the video it was so user friendly, easy to navigate and it even had a nice selection of music! It was definetely fun creating a video from pictures of our family, my kids defintely enjoyed it, plus it had been something I had been wanting to do for a while. 😊     The gradebook spreadsheets assignments were also engaging. I had a little bit of experience with Excel but these were not functions/form...

Reflection #7

This Module was full of fun activities! I love creating digital content so I really enjoyed my mini-podcast quote, youtube captions and screencasting assignments. These are definetely tools and skills we need as educators in today's ever growing digital world. It was fun to revisit Audacity since I had not used it in years! I had forgotten how simple it is to use. It was also good to learn how to fix the youtube closed captioning since I've noticed the automated ones aren't always accurate. And finally I was relieved to learn how to screen record for lessons, something I had yet to learn but was hoping we would do. Though, part of me wishes that we had started some of these assignments closer to the beginning or middle of the semester. Since we only have 2 weeks left and then finals week, so technically 3 weeks to get all the assignments done. I did a count of all the assignments combined for all 4 classes and it's just a little over 20 assignments left. To be...

Reflection #6

Social Media is one of those things I have always been apprehensive about. Ever since Instagram surfaced in 2010 I experienced its addictive nature. I remember scrolling through photos on hours. Sometimes not even being able to sleep at night. I feel the same about Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, Twitter, Youtube Shorts and any other scroll like social platform. They have a very addictive nature and like you mentioned in the class videos, we as Educators have to be very careful about the way we use them in the classroom. I do believe in order for teachers to stay relevant and connect with students we have to use some of them. That said some of the ways I thought would work pleasantly are the class blog type discussions and instagram photo essays. Sharing school events and photos on social media is also nice because it can work as an incentive for students to participate and be active in school activities.  The presentation part of the Lesson Plan was fun!πŸ˜ƒThere has...

Reflection #5

Computational Thinking! That was what this module was all about. And what a coincidence because ... that relates so well to the topic I chose for my lesson! Which is: Coding for children. 😁 I must say I am finally starting to understand computational steps and algorithms more clearly after these assignments. It is interesting how this step-by-step problem solving concept is a process that can be applied to both computers and teaching. I think it is a great way to really break down larger ideas or projects and make them more comprehensible and doable.      Finding everyone's favorite color with the Binary Alphabet was fun. I knew that one of the color's that is also a plant was going to be lavender because I loooove lavender and I am obsessed with it so much so that I had my bridesmaids in lavender at my wedding. And I just absoultely love the smell of it, I keep a bag of dry lavender and smell it to relax as odd as that sounds. I also use the lavender...

Module 4 Reflection

I'm going to be honest and say that this was a challenging Module for me. Not only because I have limited experience of lesson planning as a subsitute teacher but also because everything at home just piled up at the same time. I was working well on the lesson plan to turn it on time and then there were about 2 weeks of events and family that would just now allow me to sit down and finish. But I am so glad I got to finishing it up because it was enjoyable, mostly because I imagined teaching the lesson to my son. Thinking of ways to make sure he understands the instruction and concepts. He has just started using Scratch Jr at home and really likes it. I will have to try and teach him all about what programming is, coding, algorithms and sequences, words he is yet to learn. One part about the Lesson Plan assignment that I thought was interesting was the ISTE Standards. It was something I didn't even know existed but what a great resource it is to have to make sure techn...
